WATCH: TransAsia Plane Crash Caught on Camera


TAIPEI – TransAsia Airways’ ATR-72 turbo-prop plane took off from Taipei Songshan Airport and was heading to the outlying Kinmen islands, just off the coast of the south-eastern Chinese city of Xiamen when it suddenly crashed after takeoff. According to the reports, the plane is carrying 58 people including five crew members, 31 are tourists from mainland China. The plane crashed in the Keelung River in Taipei Wednesday morning, killing at least 12 people.

Rescuers work to free passengers from a TransAsia Airways plane that crashed in a Taipei river. This is the second TransAsia plane to crash in seven months.

The ATR-72 turbo-prop plane took off from Taipei’s Songshan Airport at 10:45 a.m. (Taiwan time) but lost contact with the flight controllers, minutes later it crashed in the Keelung River near the city’s downtown Sungshan airport.
